Finals History 2000-2012 (Week 4)

Minor premiers have not had the best of it since 2000, when the current system for the Finals was introduced.

With the Hawks' loss this weekend, minor premiers now have only a 50% success rate in Grand Finals (though they have made 10 of them from a possible 13, so minor premiership does at least afford opportunity), and they've also a slightly poorer overall record in Finals now than do teams finishing second in the home-and-away season.

In contrast, teams finishing third now have the best success rate in Grand Finals of teams from any ladder position at 60%, though they've made it to the main dance on only 5 occasions. Their overall success rate across all Finals remains however, as for all teams outside the top 2, below 50%.
