2013 : MARS Ratings After Round 26 (Finals Week 3)

It's rare for a team to win but shed MARS Rating Points (RPs), but Hawthorn managed it this week after defeating the Cats by just 5 points on Friday night. They're still comfortably in 1st though.

It's rare for a team to win but shed MARS Rating Points (RPs), but Hawthorn managed it this week after defeating the Cats by just 5 points on Friday night. They're still comfortably in 1st though.
Hawthorn this week continued the tradition of minor premiers advancing to Grand Finals, making it 11 and 3 for minor premiers in Preliminary Finals over the last 14 seasons.
Some might call it luck; I'd call it justice.
With short-priced, home team favourites being required to offer "too much" start to their opponents, it's another quiet week for MAFL Investors. Hawthorn at $1.45 are off-limits to the Head-to-Head Fund, as are Fremantle at $1.30, and the Line Fund algorithm assesses as too great the 13.5 and 20.5 points start that these two teams are, respectively, being made to grant the Cats and Swans.
As I mentioned last week, teams from the Top 4 ladder positions have a remarkable recent record in Semi-Finals. This record was enhanced this week with wins by the Cats and the Swans meaning that teams from positions 1 through 4 at the end of the home-and-away season now have a 26 and 2 record in Semi-Finals.
